Bay cruise boat off to serve Cape visitors

JUST 2½ years after being launched in Algoa Bay, the popular cruise boat Jester is to be moved to Cape Town, where it will resume its tourist cruise and functions operations.

The 25m-long doublehulled boat’s last cruise in Bay waters will take place next Sunday, March 29.

The Jester has been operated from the Port Elizabeth harbour by Eugene and Sandra van Niekerk, who also have a fishing company.

The Jester was popular with both corporate and private clients who either enjoyed day and sunset cruises or hired the vessel for private functions like weddings and team-building.

The boat also offered braai cruises.

The attractive R7-million vessel, designed by the couple and built in the Bay, became a regular feature due to its daily cruise route which hugged the Port Elizabeth beachfront’s shoreline.

According to the Jester website, the vessel will operate out of Cape Town next month.

The couple, who are out of the country, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
