Cyclist hit by bakkie on N2 near Cotswold

A cyclist was killed when he reportedly swerved in front of a bakkie on the N2 near the Cotswold interchange yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said the incident had taken place at about 6.20am.

“The cyclist, aged between 25 and 35, was riding between the Cotswold and Stanford Road interchanges when he is believed to have swerved in front of a
bakkie.

“The bakkie hit him and he died on the scene,” he said. “His identity is unknown as he had no documentation.”

Labans said the driver had stopped after the accident and alerted the police. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

Cyclist? On the N2? It was bound to happen! Especially since these cyclists AND pedestrians are encountered daily whilst the “Traffic Officials” do nothing!

This despite numerous officers (in official vehicles nogal) passing them whilst on their way to and from the Traffic Department and do not enforce the existing laws as they are paid to do!
