A new book in the racy “Fifty Shades of Grey” series will take place from the perspective of its male lead, Christian Grey.

Fourth in the series, the book is “dedicated to those readers who asked…and asked… and asked… and asked for this,” writes author E. L. James on its opening page.

The surprise announcement was made on James’ website blog, with June 18 identified not only as the publication date for “Grey” but also the birthday of its protagonist.

Famously created as a piece of off-piste fan fiction based on the “Twilight” novels by Stephenie Meyer, the boundary-pushing romance novel was re-written as an original property and published at retail in 2011 before spawning two sequels and a February 2015 film.
