A near full house of team entries is anticipated for Tuesday’s penultimate round of the popular Town Lodge Business Night Relay at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Teams comprising five runners or three walkers complete a 3.5km route within the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and businesses are enjoying this unique corporate team-building opportunity for their staff to stay active during winter.
“The support this year has been terrific, with lots of companies entering multiple teams in the event,” relay coordinator Mike Zoetmulder, of Zsports Events, said.
“This year we have about a 60-40 split between the running and walking teams and last month we saw our first wheelchair team taking part and enjoying this unique relay race.”
Series leaders Gamble Pharmacy men will be looking to avenge their shock loss last month to their mixed team and are expected to come back hard on Tuesday night.
In the walking category, the social team from Bluewater Bay are in a class of their own and it would take a group of serious walkers to challenge them.
Tuesday night’s event is the third in the series, and the final round will take place on the last Tuesday of next month.
The event starts at 6pm, with gates into the stadium opening from 4pm. Online registration for all new teams is mandatory, with an entry fee of R500 a running team and R300 a walking team.
All teams which registered for either of the previous two rounds this season do not have to re-register, but need to indicate their attendance by making a payment for round 3 before Tuesday.
Pre-registered teams keep the same race number throughout the series.
