A DISGRACED lawyer who was ordered just months ago to clean the Mount Road police station as part of his sentence for theft, is again in trouble – and this time a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Magistrate Louis Claassen issued the warrant yesterday after Thobela Qampi failed to arrive for his fraud case in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.
Just three months ago, Qampi, 36, of Sydenham, narrowly escaped a jail term after stealing R40000 from a client’s trust – money meant for the sale and transfer of a property. He received a sentence which included community service.
The latest case involves the theft of about R323600 from three clients who were under the impression that Qampi was a practising attorney and estate agent. – Kathryn Kimberley
